Charlotte M. Karastes, 96
SPRING VALLEY - Charlotte Marcelia Karastes, age 96, of Woodville died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Park View Home, Woodville.
She was born Nov. 11, 1902, the daughter of Nels and Annie (Iverson) Olson in Cady Township, St. Croix County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley and presently a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville.
On Dec. 28, 1921, she married Joseph Karastes. They had one son, LaVerne "Bud." They farmed in Cady Township north of Spring Valley until 1969. They retired and moved to Woodville. She worked at Park View Home in the housekeeping department from 1969 until 1981. She continued to live in Woodville and was a resident of Park View for the past two years.
Survivors include: her son, LaVerne "Bud" Karastes and his wife Betty of Hayward; two sisters, Doris Timm of Woodville and Mildred Jacobson of Minneapolis; one brother, Leonard Olson of Spring Valley; three grandchildren, Don (Nancy) Karastes of New Richmond, Becky Karastes and friend Steve Kromrey of Clear Lake and Kay (Robert) Hovde of Baldwin; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband Joe, who died in 1977; three sisters, Connie Lund, Nina Lunde and Nurlene Snoyer; and three brothers, Maynard, Walter and Virgil.
Visitation was held Sunday at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley. Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville. Rev. Penny Holste and Rev. Ralph Thompson officiated the service. Music was provided by organist Elaine Jacobson and vocalist John Terkelsen. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville.
Bearers were: her great-grandchildren, Kelley Eicher, Kate Eicher, Joel Karastes, David Karastes, Duane Hovde and Steven Hovde.
Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, handled arrangements.
