LaVerne S. 'Bud' Karastes, 84, of Woodville, Wis. died Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Park View Home, Woodville. He was born July 30, 1922 to Joseph and Charlotte (Olson) Karastes in Cady Township, St. Croix County. On Aug. 18, 1949 he married Betty Mathison at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville. They were blessed with three children, Becky, Don, and Kay. Bud and Betty spent their retirement on Moose Lake, east of Hayward. They made many friends while there and you would often find Bud at Louie's Landing with his coffee buddies. Survivors include his wife Betty of Woodville; his daughters and son, Becky (Stephen Kromrey) Karastes of Clear Lake; Don (Nancy) Karastes of New Richmond, and Kay (Bob) Hovde of Baldwin; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon (Gladys) Mathison of Eau Claire, Harold (Evelyn) Haag of Hayward, and Marjorie Mathison of Downing; other relatives and friends. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral: Visitation was held on Saturday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville with funeral services at 1:30 p.m.Burial: Pine Cemetery, Woodville. Casketbearers were his grandchildren. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley handled arrangements.
