OBITUARY: Arlene Armbruster, 75 - reprinted from the May 9, 2003 Hudson Star-Observer

Arlene Armbruster, 75, of Ellsworth, formerly of Big River, died Wednesday, April 30, from complications following a stroke.

She was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Big River, Pierce County, the daughter of John P. and Sophie Johnson.

She married Herbert Armbruster on Sept. 19, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big River. They farmed near Trimbelle for 40 years.

She worked at the Virginian Supper Club near Prescott and at Treasure Island Casino near Red Wing.

Arlene loved her gardening, keeping house and cooking, especially for her children. She always had a smile and a good word for everyone.

She was a regular volunteer at the Ellsworth Care Center.
Arlene was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and the church choir.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert of Ellsworth; six children, Richard (Marlene) Armbruster and Debbie (Patrick) O'Keefe, both of Hudson, Carolyn (Tim) Brunner of Ellsworth, Colleen Grimm of Hager City, Janet (Dean) Sparkman of Plymouth, Minn., and Dennis (Bridget) Armbruster of Atlanta, Ga.; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Svec of Ellsworth; and a brother, Leroy Johnson of Mahtomedi, Minn.

Preceding her in death were a son, Duane, in 1967; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth with the Rev. Tom Donaldson officiating. Following services, cremation was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, St. Paul. Burial of her cremains was Sunday, May 4, in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, also at St. Francis Catholic Church, and for one hour before services on Friday.

Pallbearers were grandchildren Grant, Garrett and Joshua Birkel, Ryan Armbruster, Trey ZehrGrimm and Derek O'Keefe.

Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Ellsworth assisted the family.
