MOUNT VERNON -- Leonard D. Clutts Jr., 80, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Anna, died at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Alto Pass, the son of Leonard Sr. and Gussie Hardin Clutts. He married Amanda Julie Clutts April 2, 1954, in Cape Girardeau; she died Feb. 28, 1988.

Mr. Clutts was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass and the VFW Post 1376 in Mount Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II and flew 33 missions over Germany where he was shot down by enemy fire and was a prisoner of war for 10½ months.

He is survived by a son, Larry Michael Burbank of Olney, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Sandra Bilinsky of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Lou and two brothers, George and Robert.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Carl Land officiating.

Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery with full military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
