Earl W. Petty, 92, of Scottsburg, died at 6:30 a.m. last Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Scott County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 18, 1892 in Carroll County, Va., the son of Joseph and Louinda Cochran Petty.

His wife, the former Forrest Sylvia Ross, preceded him in death on Apr. 14, 1962.

He was a retired employee of the Louisville Cement Company at Speed, and was a member of the Underwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Earl W. Petty Jr. and Clarence Petty, both of Henryville, Robert Petty of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Carl Petty and Floyd D. Petty, both of Scottsburg; six daughters, Mrs. Wilma Brock of Esparto, Calif., Mrs. Lorna Edwards of Henryville, Mrs. Mabel Franklin of Little York, and Mrs. Emma Rose, Mrs. Margaret Applegate, and Mrs. Katherine Lyttle, all of Scottsburg; two sisters, Miss Ethel Petty of Columbus and Mrs. Cosby Roth of Louisville; thirty two grandchildren, thirty eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted last Thursday afternoon at the Underwood Baptist Church, with Rev. Heyward Calvert officiating.
Burial was at Sodom Cemetery, with arrangements handled by the Collins Funeral Home of Scottsburg.
The family requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or the Underwood Baptist Church.
