Benjamin Franklin Witt Sr was born on 6 April 1877 in Lee County, Virginia, to William C Witt and Elizabeth Clarkston. He married Mollie Cox, 31 January 1901, in Wise County. Their children were Ted, James, Lois, Attle, John, Woodrow, Nina, and Benjamin Witt. The Census of 1910 has the family still living in Wise County, along with Benjamin's widowed mother-in-law. Benjamin registered for the Selective Service on 12 September 1918, while working as a druggist at Mutual Pharmacy in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Between the Census of 1920 and 1930, Benjamin and Mollie moved to Sullivan County, Tennessee. Benjamin Witt died, 23 November 1953, aged 76, and was buried with his wife at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee.
