The 1900 census shows a January 1871 birth month and year for Lafe, but his death certificate shows September 4, without listing a year.

He was the son of Robert Clinton Beauchamp and his wife Mary E., nee Bradshaw.

He married twice. Thanks to researcher J.D. Gee for sharing information regarding his first marriage to Virginia Ada Wilmore, daughter of William Austin Wilmore and his wife Calphurnia "Callie" Wilmore. Lafe and Ada married in 1901. They were first cousins. The notice of their marriage in Gradyville, Adair County, Kentucky, was in the September 25, 1901 Adair County News. The couple had a daughter Mary Beauchamp, born March 3, 1902. The marriage did not last long as Ada married again in December 1905 or January 1906. Sadly Lafe's ex-wife Ada and daughter Mary died in the June 7, 1907 flash flood that devastated the village of Gradyville.

Lafe married Ella Hale on October 10, 1906 at Hartford, Ohio County, Kentucky. The couple had five children between 1906 and 1921, and Ella died in child birth in 1923, but no birth or death record is available for that child.

When he married Ella he was a merchant. In census records he was a clerk in a grocery, proprietor of a saloon, a groceryman, and proprietor of a restaurant.

Lafe died following having a cerebral hemorrhage. His death certificate also noted that he had arteriosclerosis since 1932. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery on July 23, 1936. James H. Davis of Owensboro, Kentucky was the undertaker.
