John Wagner Sr.,. one of the founders of the Town of Wagner and widely known lumber jobber and dairy farm owner, died at midnight last evening in St. Joseph's hospital, Menominee. Heart complications developed after a siege of the flu, suffered some time previously, but the condition of the patient was not deemed alarming, his death coming very unexpectedly.
He and his brother Joseph were among the earliest setters in the town that was named for them, Joseph dying three years ago.
Mr. Wagner was born in Austria, Europe, sixty -nine years ago and came to the United States when he was 13 years old. He located in Mankato, Minn., where he resided for some time, later removing to Marinette county, where his fine dairy farm occupied his time and attention the past few years.
Mr. Wagner was twice married, his first wife dying in 1925, and later he was united in marriage to Mrs. Annie Duffrin of Stephenson, Mich.,The survivors were the widow and the following adult children; Fred of Wallace; William of Stephenson; Frank J of Wagner; Peter of McAllister; Mrs. Leonard Houlette, Wallace, Mich.; Paul of Wagner and Mrs. Fred Pohl of Rockford, Ill.; besides two adopted grandchildren, Rose and Elizabeth List whom Mr. Wagner adopted upon the death of their mother, who was Katherine Wagner, his daughter.
The body was brot to the McLain Funeral Home in this city and this afternoon was taken to the family farm home. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 from St. Edward's church in Wagner, the Rev. Father F. C. Helmann of Walsh and Wagner,to be celebrant of the requiem. Burial will be made in the Walsh cemetery.
