FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Coquita Chapman Griffey, 64, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born March 15, 1932, in Thacker, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Allen Chapman and Fanny Evelyn (Hatfield) Chapman.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James Calvin Griffey Sr., in 1989. Mrs. Griffey was a member of Emmanuel House of Prayer in Springfield.

Among the survivors are three daughters, Alveta Hahn, Falling Waters, Evelyn Gayle Creel, Goose Creek, S.C., and Teresa L. Omera, Clinton, Md.; a son, Allen Griffey, Richmond, Va.; two brothers, William Chapman, Salem, and Golden Chapman, Vienna, Va.; one sister, Juanita DeWolfe, Falls Church, Va.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Friday. The service will be held at Emmanuel House of Prayer on Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Smith officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
