~Iona Brooks Land August 5, 1907- March 27, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— Iona Brooks Land, 99, of Columbus, GA died at Veranda Assisted Living Community on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, 2007 in Parkhill Cemetery with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. Honorary pallbearers: members of the Lillian Harris Sunday School Class. Mrs. Land was born August 5, 1907 in Columbus, GA daughter of the late G. J. Brooks and Claudia Skinner Brooks. She was had been an active member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church since 1953 where she enjoyed serving in many areas of ministry. Mrs. Land was a Champion Bridge Player. She started playing at the age of 16 and played up until recently. Mrs. Land was also an accomplished poet and gardener. She loved her family with all of her heart and will be missed by her family. We will miss her wisdom, humor and love, but we will forever cherish her memories. Mrs. Land was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Land, II; two daughters, Jill Denise Land and Jan Land Haycock; a sister, Louise Haskell and four brothers, Paul Brooks, Lee Brooks, J.B. Brooks and Cecil Brooks. Survivors include her son, Martin J. Land, III and his wife, Deanna Storey "Dee" of Columbus, GA; one grandson, Carlton Haycock and his wife, Susan of Columbus, GA; several nieces, nephews and friends.
