Charlie was born May 19, 1924, in Detroit to Harry and Cora Smith. He was raised in Fremont. A fisherman, hunter and avid garage-saler, he was deeply devoted to his family and grandchildren. In World War II, he flew 28 missions as a ball-turret gunner on B-17s. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln before working as a real estate appraiser and broker for the Nebraska Department of Roads.


He was supported by: his wife, Marjorie (Vidlak) Smith; son, Michael of Lincoln; son and daughter- in-law, C. Patrick and Amy (Zach) of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amy (Klemsz) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Chris Smith (and his fiancee, Jenna Hanson), Kurtis Smith, Justin Klemsz (and his wife, Erica), and LeAnne Klemsz; sister and brother-in-law, Alice Mae and Frank Bedell of Washington, Utah; and brother-in-law, Jack Friend of Hastings;


He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Annette.
