Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Miller of Harrison Celebrate Fiftieth Anniversary.

Harrison, Feb. 17. — Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Miller of this city celebrated their golden wedding on last evening at their suburban home. James Wilson Miller was bom in Rockbridge county, Va., on November 27, 1936. His father's land joined the famous natural rock bridge over Cedar Creek, Va. Here Mr. Miller grew up to young manhood, at which time he moved to Wabash county, Ind., where he found his wife, Miss Mary Agnes Leekey [sic], who was born August 21, 1842. They were married in February, 1862. After the war they moved to Memphis. Mo., where their 11 children were born, coming to Harrison about 15 years ago. They have 10 living children, who are the Rev. S. G. Miller, D. D. of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Clara B. Highfill of Harrison, Mrs. G. S. Monroe of Memphis, Mo., Mrs. C. P. Browning, wife of the Rev. Charles Browning, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Gravett, Miss Nannie W. Miller and Miss Nellie Miller of Harrison, Mrs. S. G. Parks of Harrison, Mrs. W. A. Parker of Harrison, Frank C. and James W. Miller of Harrison, Idaho. On the golden wedding anniversary each of the children presented tbeir parents with a gold coin.

James Wilson Miller, 2nd son of Samuel and Jeanetta [née Wilson] Miller, was born in the bounds of Rockbridge County, Virginia. His parents were both from early pioneer family of the region. At the age of seventeen, James' family emigrated west; first to Clinton County, Indiana and then two years later to Scotland County, Missouri.

In 1860, James moved back to Indiana. Here he met and married Miss Mary Agnes Lackey on February 6th 1862. Mary Agnes was the daughter of John and Mary Weir [née Walker] Lackey; whose family were also originally from Rockbridge County, Virginia.

James and Mary Agnes would have the following eleven children:

In 1878, James Miller moved his family to the area around Memphis in Scotland County, Missouri. Here they lived until 1896, when they moved to Harrison in Boone County, Arkansas.

The Miller's were Presbyterians, the faith of their parents and generations before. Their son, Samuel Gillen, became a well-known Presbyterian minister.

James Wilson Miller departed this life on the 13th of November 1929 in Harrison, Arkansas at the age of 91 years old.
