William Alexander Wilton, the son of William Hewitt Wilton and Yvonne Guyon, was known as "Alex" by his classmates at Newport Harbor High School located in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. While residing in Newport, Alex was a very avid surfer and years later he often watched the "home movies" taken of him participating in the popular sport. Alex would frequently attend the E.Y.C. activities held at St. James Episcopal Church in Newport and is fondly remembered for his warm and friendly personality. He graduated from NHHS in 1961 and then in 1966, he left Newport to attend a civilian pilot training program in Miami, Florida. In September of that year, Alex sustained very serious injuries while a passenger in a Volkswagen that rolled over, killing the driver. Sadly, Alex was left a quadriplegic, although he did have partial use of his arms and hands. In time, he was able to operate a wheelchair and drive a car. He made very good use of the abilities he did have and with hard work and determination, he became a particpant in the "Paralympic Games". Due to poor circulation, gangrene eventually developed in Alex's lower extremities, resulting in amputation of both legs in March of 2001. He died the following September of a post surgery infection while confined in a nursing home in St. Louis.

With the help of his family, Alex "kept up" with his school chums at Newport via Classmates and seemed to enjoy knowing about their activities and families. He is remembered with a smile and is missed by those he befriended.
