Mrs. J. Lawrence Smith Dead.
Louisville, Ky., July 25. - Mrs. J. Lawrence Smith, one of the best known women in Kentucky, died at her home here Wednesday. She was born in Louisville 75 years ago, a daughter of James Guthrie, at one time secretary of the treasury. She married J. Lawrence Smith, one of the greatest scientists America ever produced. Mrs. Smith was also noted for her charity, and had given away most of a large fortune, her gifts to the Southern Baptist Theological seminary being over $100,000.
