He was born September 2, 1911 in Salt Lake City to Edward Paul and Louisa Eardley Midgley, one of six brothers including his twin. He married Afton Tucker on June 28, 1940 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed as an eternal family unit in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. Afton died June 15, 1970. Edward then married Karolla Barber Carman on August 23, 1974, she died in 1988. He was currently married to Cora Burmester. He died trying to extend his life with Cora.Edward graduated from the University of Utah with an MA in Zoology, working his way through college playing in dance bands in the Salt Lake area and summers in Yellowstone Park. He was a teacher in Carbon County before going to work for Aetna Life and Surety Company until his retirement. He lived in Boise, Denver, San Diego, Salt Lake, Great Falls, Montana, and Spokane, Washington, before settling down in Provo after retiring.

He served many positions in the church, including a mission to the Northeast with Karolla, and was presently working in the Provo Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; sons: Roger (Jill) Midgley of Ogden; Robert C. Midgley of Orem; Tom (Kathleen) Carman of Heber; Dennis Carman of Salt Lake City; Richard (Sharon) Burmester of Salt Lake City; Joel (Carol) Burmester of Salt Lake City; daughters, Dianne (George) Pace of Provo; and Carla (Ara) Call of Hong Kong; 47 grandchildren, and 63 great-grandchildren.
