Neillsville Press, Nov. 9 1933: Death of another Pioneer: Carl Beilke, an old resident of Clark county, died Nov. 3, 1933, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Schlinsog, at the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He was born Feb. 12 1867 at Ottendorf, Germany. As an infant he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran church.
In 1891 he came to this country and landed in Neillsville. with relatives, later he moved to Hein Town, in the town of York [twp.], where he was employed in Hein's mill. Three years later he moved to the town of Fremont where he bought some timber land, and cleared up a farm which was his home.
On March 6, 1889 he was married to Albertina Pagel. To this union 8 children were born, 4 of whom survive: Mrs. Ernest Schlinsog, Mrs. J. Prust, Mrs. Harry Cole and Agatha at home. Three children died in infancy, Richard as a young man died in 1918.
His wife preceded him 11 years ago. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Beer of Marshfield, Mrs. Joe Meyer, Mrs. Math Marx of Neillsville, and a host of relatives and friends.
As a pioneer he spent winters in logging camps and had many hardships of life. He was a kind husband and father and a good neighbor. In 1931 as his health failed he moved to Chili; after a year his condition became worse and he moved to his daughter's: Mrs. Ernest Schlinsog. His death was due to heart failure and dropsy. He was a member of the American Lutheran church.
Relatives from out of town that attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pagel and daughter ruth, Manitowoc; Mrs. Julius Busch, Miss Alma Pagel of Algoma; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Meyer, Loyal; Mrs. Joe Meyer, Mrs. Math Marx and daughter Rose, all of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Georgie of Neillsville. Flower girls were 4 grandchildren: Viola Prust, Marian Cole, Madeline Beilke and Esther Schlinsog. Pall bearers were Paul Handke, Herman Schlinsog, F. Elmhorst, John Madler, Gustave Anderson and Gordon Davis.
The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 6 in the American Lutheran church in the town of Grant, Rev. J.G. Buth officiating.
