Billy and his father, John Kinsman, Sr., and Billy's brother John Kinsman Jr. went to Tombstone, Pima County (now Cochise County, Arizona to work in the silver mines.
On Feb 23, 1883, Billy's jealous lover, Mrs. May Woodman, who claimed to be his wife, shot him to death with a .38 caliber gun in front of the Oriental Saloon, and Billy died a few hours later. Billy was buried at Boot Hill Graveyard, Cemetery, Tombstone, Pima County (now Chochise County)Arizona in February 1883.
In 1885 Billy's family from California re-interred him to Greenlawn Memorial Park, Colima, San Mateo, California.
