Viola M. Balliet, 66, of Ohio City, died 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Putnam Acres Nursing Home, Ottawa. She was born May 14, 1936 in Celina to Phillip A. and Josephine (Burch) Ramsey. On Dec. 22, 1956 she married Gerald C. Balliet Sr., who died March 19, 2001. Survivors include two sons, Gerald C. (Christina) Balliet Jr. of Convoy; Donald E. (Sue Boroff) Balliet of Ohio City; two daughters, Mary Jane (Wayne) Parker of Gilboa and Pam (Clay) Strawser of Scott; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John A, Russell L., and Robert F. Ramsey; and two sisters, Laura Smelser and Anna M. Dunno Walker. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Van Wert. She was a member of Van Wert Women of Moose #6, and a classmate of the 1956 Celina High School. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City. Friends may call 204 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a memorial service will be conducted by the Women of the Moose at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association or Van Wert County Heart Association
