Excerpt -- Stella Prudence Blamble, 79, of Aurora, died last Friday at 1:05 a.m. at Oakland. Born at Horse Shoe Run, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Margaret Crabile(should be Crabill) Wotring. Her husband Louis Albert Blamble, died in 1943.

She is survived by six sons, Willie E. of Cambridge, Oh., Albert R. of Cumberland, Md., Lee G. of Springfield, Oh., Clarence B. of Akron, Oh., Elwood B. of Aurora and Leonard of Vienna; two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Alice Harned of Kingwood and Mrs. Hilda E. Pretzel of Aurora; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Miller of Woodstock, Va., and Mrs. Ruth Benford of Huntington; one brother, John C. of Barberton, Oh; 32 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stemple Ridge Church by Rev. Hugh Shiley of Aurora. Burial was in Texas Cemetery with Fike-Watson Funeral Home of Terra Alta in charge.


======================================================================Stella Prudence Wotring was born on 19 August 1872 in Preston County, WV and her middle name is in honor of her paternal Grandmother Prudence Wotring.

(Note: some records indicate that Stella was born in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia) the first born daughter of Benjamin Eugenius (also written Eugene) Wotring and Margaret Elizabeth Crabill Wotring. There may be a possiblity that Stella was born in Winchester while her mother was visiting a relative in the Winchester area. Benjamin had two brother's living near Winchester, VA - Maj. Daniel Wotring and Lt. Col. John Wotring and that Stella's birth may have been registered in Preston County.


Stella's father Benjamin Eugenius (Eugene) Wotring was a member of famous McNeill's Ranger during the Civil War and he was a part of the group who captured General Crook and General Kelley on February 21, 1865 at Cumberland, Maryland while surrounded by 6-8 thousand Union troops. This was considered an amazing feat and drew praise from General Robert E. Lee. Stella's father died in Hendricks, Tucker County, WV after having recently moved there from Bayard, WV. and was buried in the Texas Cemetery, Horeshoe Run, Preston County, West Virginia. Benjamin Eugene was the son of Abraham D. Wotring and (Cora) Prudence Felton Wotring who are also buried in this same cemetery.


Stella's mother, Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Crabill Wotring was the daughter of Jonathan Stribling Crabill and Sarah Anne Hall Crabill(Clem) and was born at Maurertown, Shenandoah County, Virginia.


Stella's mother, Maggie moved back to Shenandoah County, Virginia some time after the death of her husband, Benjamin Eugene Wotring who died in 1904. Her mother is listed in the 1910 US Census with Stella's sister -Sarah Eunice Wotring Miller and Eunice's husband, John William Miller, Sr at Maurertown, VA. Her mother was also listed as living with Stella's younger sister, Mary Wilburn and her husband Leslie Wilburn in Cumberland, MD during the late 1920's. Mary Wilburn died in 1928 and is buried in Cumberland, MD and Stella's mother, Maggie, died in 1929 in Virginia and was buried in the Miller Plot at Toms Brook Cemetery, Toms Brook, Shenandoah County, Virginia not far from the Crabill family homeplace in nearby Maurertown, Virginia where she grew up.

Stella married Lewis Albert Blamble, the son of John Caspar Blamble and Sophia Margaret Ridder Blamble on 14 Dec 1890 in Garrett County, Maryland.


Their marriage was blessed with nine children:


1) Bertha Blamble 9 Sep 1891 - 10 Oct 1988 m. Charles Harned both buried at Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood, WV

2) Wiley Edward Blamble 5 Nov 1893-10 Mar 1982 m. Zina Ann Bowers buried in Guernsey Memorial Gardens, Cambridge, Ohio

3) Eunice May Blamble Feb 1895 - 1934 m. Elisha Sargent Brown buried Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood, WV

4) Albert Royer Blamble 4 Mar 1899 d. 1953 m. Josephine Elizabeth Wiant 11 Jun 1927 both buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland, Md.

5) Lee Gilbert Blamble 28 Dec 1901 d. 2 Oct 1971 m. Audrey Barnes buried at Fort Ashby Cemetery, Fort Ashby, WV
