Preston Deason Swafford Sr., 79, Beaufort, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011.

Mr. Swafford was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Oak Park, Ill., and graduated from Batavia High School, Batavia, Ill.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 on the submarines, the U.S.S. Diodon and the U.S.S. Volador.

On June 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joann LeBeau in San Francisco, Calif.

He achieved the 32nd degree of the Scottish-Rite of Freemasonry in Loves Park, Ill.

Mr. Swafford owned and operated Swafford Electric for 25 years in Beaufort. He volunteered at the Beaufort-Leslie Fire Department for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ina Mae Deason Swafford and Fred Grant Swafford; his brother, Fred Grant Swafford Jr.; and his sister, Dura Dee "DeeDee" Swafford Fadness.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Swafford; three children, Annette Green and husband Roger and Bernadette Pennington and husband Stephen, all of Beaufort, and Preston Swafford Jr. and wife Sharon, Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Beth Swafford, Samantha Swafford, Stephen Pennington Jr., Christine Pennington, Preston Swafford III, Sean Pennington and Megan Pennington; other relatives and many friends.

Burial was in the church cemetery.
