My note: Shirley notes, paraphrased, etc., which help provide a brief glimpse into Edward Scott's life.

Scott Rust is no doubt named after a long trail of Edwards in his mother's family: There were numerous Edward Burgess. I've found a Rev. Alexander Scott, who was an early (1715) Fauquier Co. Settler at Horsepen or Marr's Branch.

In these days our Rusts had been Baptists for a few generations. Aunt Ruby wrote they were Free Will Baptists. While living in Texas they were converted to the Church of Christ.

Howellsville (where Edward Scott was born) is in Warren Co, VA and near the Clarke County line, located on the Shenandoah River. Their home was 200 yards north of the Howellsville Post Office. Their property was the location of the family burial ground. Only 2 graves remain marked there. Most family members were moved to the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal, VA.

Scott & Anna remained living on the Shenandoah River in Warren County, near the Clarke County line, until after their daughter, Julia Catherine, was born.

Likely timetable:
Birth: 1847
1850: Census in Warren Co, VA
1860: Census for Warren Co, VA
1870: Farming, Head of household in Warren Co, VA
Two younger brothers remain on the farm. Bushrod, though older, is not the 'head' of the household. "Bush" had lost an arm in the Civil War and may not have been able to do farm work. Nor was he married.
1870: 20 Dec. Marriage to Anna V Massie.
1871: 21 Sept. Ada Scott Rust was born.
1874: August. Benjamin C Rust was born. (Bet the C is Clifford. Just an idea)
1875: 18 August. Julia Catherine born. In Warren Co, VA until after 1875.
About 1877 or 1878: Start for Texas.
(Lore) Roanoke, Va for a short while. Bushrod was not there then; so why a stop?
(Lore) Anna V. remained in (Mississippi?) while Scott found a good place to settle in Texas.
1880: Denton Co, TX for Federal Census 1880.
They lived in Blanket, Brown Co, TX (Sometime, but when and how long is unknown yet.)
1889: (About) Ada Scott married Jesse Clemmons Stewart in Texas.
1890: Indian Territory, Boggy Depot near Tulsa, 1891. (Source: Otho Russell, grandson.)
1890: Later in the year, to Choctaw Indian Territory, Bochito,Bryan Co,OK
1901: January, Daughter, Julia Catherine marries Alva Benton Russell.
1893: Scott Rust dies. (Tombstone says 1896) I've changed the date in Computer.

Lore is adamant that Scott Rust died before Julia married. Scott Rust's grandson, also an Edward Scott Rust, son of Ben, died an infant in 1900. Both are buried in the Old Philadelphia Cemetery, Blue, Oklahoma. They lie next to each other.

Old Philadelphia Cemetery aka the Old Blue Cemetery: Located in Section 36, Twp 6 South, Range 10 E. One and one/half miles east of Blue. From Durant, go East 8 miles on Highway 70 to Blue, turn right across the railroad tracks, turn left (East) for 1 1/2 miles. The Cemetery is on the right side of the road in a grove of trees. The stones are hard to read as the cemetery is overgrown with vies and underbrush. These grave stones were recorded by Bob Ferguson, Wanda Shelton and Lucille Brimage on March 21, 1986.

Rust Stones read:
