Delcenia McPherson was born near "Camden" in Curri-tuck county, North Carolina on the 30th day of Jan. 1810 and died near Rose Hill, Mahaska county, Iowa on February 14, 1905, aged 95 years and 15 days.

Her first marriage was to J. G. Kight with whom she moved to Indiana, settling near Terre Haute. To them was born two children, Rebecca, who died in 1849 and Martha, now Mrs. Marsh with whom she made her home for the last 24 years of her life: Hoping to better their fortunes Mr. Kight went to the Lead mines near Galena, Ill, where he died.

In the spring of 1840, in company with another family, she moved to Louisa County, Iowa, and in the fall of the same year married to R. P. Bolles and in 1844 they moved to Mahaska County settling on a farm near the present town of Rose Hill, (the present McCune farm) and later to the home where she died. Here Mr. Bolles died 19 Sep 1877. To them were born 4 children. Frank, eldest was born in Louisa county and died at Moteny, Tenn a Soldier of the Union.

Adeline, the 2nd child, died at the age of two years; the second son, R. P. Bolles was also a soldier of the Rebellion. Coming back from the war he entered the law department of the State University at Iowa City, from which he graduated and began the practice of law in Kingman, Kansas where he died in 1890. Byron O., the youngest child now lives in Kansas. Mother Bolles raised four sets of children and the testimony of one of her step-children was that she never made any difference in them, treating all alike and showing a mothers love and interest for all.

Mother Bolles was converted in her own home in the winter of 57 or giving a beautiful testimony of her spiritual birth, and while she never united with any church, has lived a consistent Christian life, loved and respected by all who knew her. Like a ripe sheaf of wheat she fell asleep and just a short time before her death she spoke calmly, cheerfully of her departure, saying she was ready when God called for her, and was garnered into God's greater garner.

On the 16th last, after a brief funeral service conducted by Revs. McBride & Smith and covered with carnations (her favorite flower) she was laid to rest beside her husband in the old Rose Hill cemetery (which was a part of their first farm here). There to await the great resurrection day. Peace to her ashes.
