DEATH OF DEMING BOARDMAN

Again the sad duty devolves upon us of announcing the death of one of our most aged, honored and widely known citizens, Mr. Deming Boardman, on of the veritable pioneers, and for many years a prominent figure in the progressive history of Seneca Falls. His death occurred last Saturday. Few, indeed, ever reach the ripe old age to which he attained, having recently passed his ninety-second birthday, and until within a few years retaining both physical and mental powers in a remarkable degree.
Deming Boardman was born Oct. 10, 1799, in St. Albans, Vermont, and came with his parents to what was then the town of Junius, now Seneca Falls, October, 1811, settling first upon what is known as the Sheridan farm, less that a mile from the home in which he spent the last forty-two years of his life. He has always lived in this vicinity, though for a number of years being largely interested in milling and other business in Jordan, N.Y.

Deceased was twice married, first to Polly Crane, March 12, 1816, and after her death in 1870, to Mrs. Lucinda Prince, who died Aug. 5th, 1874.

From his first marriage sprang a long line of descendants, though of his ten children but four survive him: Burnet B., and E. Deming Boardman, Mrs. Jane McCurdy of Geneva, and Mrs. Wm. Allen of Syracuse.

His stalwart frame and strong constitution were his inheritance from good Revolutionary stock, his father being a soldier, and an uncle while in the service of his country, died on board a British prison ship.

Deceased was for many years an exemplary member of the M.E. church in this place, a man of extensive and salutary influence, and possessed of an honorably acquired competency. His funeral took place yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, from the residence of his widowed daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chas. Boardman, whose husband died some months since, and with whom "Grandpa Boardman" had made his home for several years.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.E. Jewell of the M.E. church, and were largely attended.
