Michael D. Ballinger
Dec. 14, 1949 - Sept. 5, 2011

MISHAWAKA - Michael D. Ballinger of Lebanon IN, formerly of Mishawaka, "shed his earthly body to join the infinite spirit of love" on September 5, 2011. Michael was born in Michigan City, IN, on Dec. 14, 1949. He graduated from Riley H.S. in 1968. He is survived by a daughter, Alicia Joy (Jay) Scott of Surrey, BC; a special granddaughter, Jillian; and a son, Gabriel Michael (Heather) of Elkhart, IN; Mavis Forsey, his dear friend and mother of his children of South Bend; a sister, Diane; and special niece, Brittany of Wisconsin; brother, Patrick of Ohio; and also his beloved 3-legged black lab, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his mom, Ruth, in 1966, and his dad, George, in 1968. He has been greeted in heaven by his special companions, Schoen and Zappa, his black German Shepherds, and Walker, his Dobe. Michael was a talented carpenter who took great pride in his work. He was also an expert marksman, vintage boat refinisher, and a great cook. Mike had a can-do attitude and succeeded at anything he set out to do. He was an incredible "dog whisperer." Mike was a friend to many, and prided himself on being "a man of honesty, integrity and fairness." Mike moved to Lebanon in 2006 to find work. Michael was a very resourceful man but, sadly, he was a victim of the economy. He volunteered at the Humane Society. Per Michael's wishes, there will be no services. He requests donations be made to either the Boone County or St. Joe County Humane Society . "Do not mourn for me but laugh with my witty sense of humor. This was my gift." Love, Mike
