Mrs. Mildred Pope, 91, of Ashland died today in Wurtland Health Care Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Pope was born Nov. 20, 1896, in Vanceburg, a daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine Smith Bruce. Her husband, Roy E. Pope, died in 1948.
She was a retired secretary with the Ashland city school system and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Pope Goff of Ashland, a brother, Dr. William A. Bruce, of Baton Rouge, La., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Satruday at the Ashland Cemetery by the Rev. Philip Bernbower.
There will be no visitation. All arrangements are under the direction of the Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1800 Winchester Ave., Ashland.
