On 27 May 1832 Carver became an Elder of the Windsor Presbyterian Church, Windsor, Broome Co, NY, which his grandfather David Hotchkiss was a founding member of and who gave the land upon which the church was built. On 29 Sep 1836 he was appointed Postmaster for Windsor, Broome Co, NY. In addition to being a farmer and Postmaster, Carver taught school and served as a minister in the Windsor Presbyterian Church. In 1852 Carver is listed as serving on the Corporation for the Shelburne Falls Academy, Shelburne Falls, Franklin Co, MA. In 1859 he was serving as a Senator on the Board of Overseers for the Berkshire Medical Institute, Berkshire, MA
