Tivis Rebel Abbott Jr., 76 of Hamilton, died in the Olin E. Teague Veteran Memorial Hospital in Temple Feb. 2, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday February 5, 2003 at the Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Townsend officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Eastlawn Memorial Park at Early, military honors provided by Dyess Air Force Honor Guard.

Mr. Abbott was born December 29, 1926 at Stanton, Texas, the son of Tivis R. Abbott Sr. and Sarah Myrtle Hovey Abbott. He graduated from Galena High School in 1945 and continued his education at McMurray College in Abilene, Texas, University of Alaska, Anchorage, Midwestern, Wichita Falls, Texas and NESU Tahlequah.

He served his country in the Army Air Corp and the Air Force retiring from the Air Force after serving twenty-four years. He was an instructor, teaching teachers to teach. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was united married to Wanda Jean Smith July 6, 1951. She preceded him in death on June 6, 1991. On April 2, 1994 he married Edith Johnson.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Rebel Abbott III, Ann Myra and her husband Steve, and Stan Thomas and his wife Joyce; four sisters, Henry Beth Hogg, Matilda Treadway, Minnie Inez Jones, and Mamie Lee Harris; a sister-in-law Pat Gay and her husband Bob; brother-in-law J. W. Smith and his wife Lucy and by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
