Obituary:
Melvill A. Collins Dead.
This community was saddened Thursday night by the death of Melvill A. Collins at his home on South Main Street of this city. Hewas well and favorably known to every one in this city. Mr. Collins or as every one knew him as "Dick" had been a sufferer for the last year of that terrible disease, the cancer.
He had been taking treatment from all well known physicians and surgeons in the middlewest but despite their most superhuman efforts he could not withstand the ravages of this disease and he finally succumbed after putting up a most gallant fight.
The funeral services were held in the Christian church of this city. Rev. Wm. L. Garrison preaching the funeral services. The Masonic order conducted their ritualistic services and the Odd Fellows attended in a body. Mr. Collins was a member of the highest standing in both of these orders. Besides being a member of these two fraternal organizations he was a member of the Woodman of the World lodge in which he carried 8500,00 insurance.
Melville A. Collins was born in Fulton county, Illinois on June 2nd, 1854 and died in Medicine Lodge, Kans., September 7th, 1911, age 57 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Mr. Collins came to Kansas in 1856 and has been a citizen of the good state till his death. On Jan. 26th, 1902 he was united in marriage to Ella Addington at lola, Kans. He and his family moved to this city in 1906 and he worked at the carpenter trade while his wife was in the candy, soft drink and restaurant business.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ella Collins, two brothers, T. R. and J. A. Collins of Ottawa, Kans., and two sisters Mrs. Jennie Haford and Mrs. Lizzie Webster of Kansas City,
Missouri.
The many friends of the family offer their deepest sympathy to the heart broken wife, brothers and sisters.
