Peggy Lou Rumer Jakubowski, 87, died of natural causes at Marquis Care at Plum Ridge, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. She was born to Isaac David Rumer and Anne Marie Ostrum Rumer on May 26, 1924, in Klamath Falls, Ore., the youngest of six girls. She was the first to be born a hospital.
A life-long resident, she attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1942. In 1943, she met a handsome young Marine, Frank S. Jakubowski, who was stationed at the Marine Base on the site of the former OTI Campus. They were married in May of 1945, and moved to Chicago where two of their children were born. They returned to Klamath Falls in 1950 to raise their family, which included two more children born in Klamath Falls.
Peggy's interests included playing Bingo, painting in watercolor, bowling and growing plants. Peggy and Frank spent many years shuttling cars across the country for a local car dealership. It was a job they enjoyed very much, because it afforded them the opportunity to see lot of our country they might not have seen otherwise.
For several years, Frank and Peggy operated Frank's Country Store at Rocky Point. They also owned and operated Gem Gardens in the former Shasta Plaza Shopping Center. Peggy also served as office manager for ACME Fast Freight, purchasing agent for the U.S. Air Force and worked in the Klamath County tax office.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in April of 2010 as well as by her parents and sisters, Bessie Seaver, Lois Evans, Margie Bacon, Ruth Eilene Rumer (infant) and Ardyce Woodard. She is survived by her children, Terry and Keith Jessup of Vancouver, Wash., Guy Jakubowski of Klamath Falls, Mike and Wendy Jakubowski of St. Helens, Ore., Debra and Brian Lepley of Klamath Falls; grandchildren, Leah and David Skeen of Tacoma, Wash., Kendra and Chris Bleth of Vancouver, Wash., Michael and Carla Jakubowski of Norfolk, Va., Tim and Sondra Jakubowski of Portland, Ore., Josh and Cindy Lepley of Hillsboro, Ore., Holly and Bejay Miller of Lafayette, Ore., Tessa and Tony Lepley of Anchorage, AK and Eron and Eric Martin of Washington; great-grandchildren, Spencer and Ethan Cole, Willow Morehead Bleth, Raif Miller, Dylan Martin, Samantha Martin and Addison Boyce.
