John was the son of John Thomas and Rhoida Laura Tedder Brown Dearman, Sr. He married the former Mary Magdalene Prewitt on November 18, 1903 in Berclair, Goliad Co., TX.

Mrs. Patsy Hand of Victoria, Texas, wrote the following:
"My grandfather, John Thomas Dearman, came to Texas from Meridian, Mississippi about 1890. His mother, Rhoda (Tedder) Brown Dearman had been recently widowed so they came to Texas to be near Rhoda's older daughter, Rebecca Brown McBride.

"They came to Victoria County and worked on the Garcitas Ranch where Rebecca and her husband lived. John Thomas Dearman went to Berclair, Texas, when he was about twenty years old and worked on the Weise Ranch as a carpenter's helper with a Mr. Robinson. He married Mary Magdalene Prewitt, November 18, 1903 in Berclair. They moved by railroad to the McFaddin Ranch in Victoria County in December 1913.

"John Thomas Dearman was Farm manager of the McFaddin Ranch until illness forced him to retire. He died at the ranch and was buried in Victoria County, Evergreen Cemetery on June 18, 1943. His son, Lenard Thomas Dearman, assumed his position on the ranch and he held this job until his death, August 6, 1977. He is also buried in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery. There have been Dearmans on the McFaddin Ranch for 64 years."

John Dearman dies At McFaddin Home
John Dearman, 62, retired farm manager for the McFaddin Estate at McFaddin, died at his home in the McFaddin community at 5:30 o'clock Friday morning. He had been ill for three years.
Funeral arrangements, to be announced by Muske Funeral Home, are awaiting the arrival of a son, Pvt. Joe Allen Dearman, who is in the Army.
John Thomas Dearman was born at Meridian, Miss., August 25, 1880, a son of John Thomas Dearman and Mrs. Rhoda Laura Tedder Dearman, deceased. He came to Victoria County in December 1913, and had been employed by the McFaddens since that time.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maggie Prewitt Dearman; four sons, John Robert Dearman of Houston, Leonard Dearman and Jimmie J. Dearman of McFaddin and Pvt. Joe Allen Dearman of the U.S. Army; two daughters, Mrs. R. P. Kelly of Freeport and Mrs. L. H. Blackerly of Victoria; one brother, Will J. Dearman of Houston, and seven grandchildren.
