Christian Shirk, 73, a retired farmer northwest of town, was found dead in bed Saturday morning by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Although he has been suffering with heart trouble for some time, he was not confined to his home and had spent some time here in town Thursday.

Florence, teacher of the Good school in Union township, was notified of the death of her father while attending a teachers' institute in Goshen.

As the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Shirk, he was born near his present home.

He was married in 1890 to Sarah Berkey, who passed away March 9, 1919.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Delbert Berry of Mishawaka, Florence and Mary Elizabeth at home; one son, Arthur of near Mishawaka; four grandchildren; four brothers, John of Long Beach, Calif, David, Noah and Joseph of near Hesston, Kansas, Emma Lawdver of Oklahoma, and Anna Sedgewich of Junction City, Okla.

Two children, Golda and Harold, preceded their father in death.

The funeral was held Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the home and 2 pm at the Olive Mennonite church, where Mr Shirk was a member. The Rev D A Yoder and Rev Clarence Shank officiated. Burial in Olive cemetery.
