Mary Allietta (Miller) Sweet Hull (94) of
Palm Bay, Florida passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Lifecare Center of Melbourne Florida. The family moved to Florida in 1970 from Washington, DC. Mrs. Hull was born in Massena, NY(St. Lawrence County) in 1917 and grew up in Hogansburg, NY (Franklin County). She was the only child of William M. Miller and Mary Elsie Lafantasie. She lived in a one room log cabin with six family members until she was seven years old. She graduated from Bombay High School as Salutitorian in 1933. She went to Teachers College in Potsdam, NY and graduated from Cornwall Commercial College (Cornwall Ontario, Canada)about 1935.
Mrs. Hull started her career in Washington, DC as a clerk typist for the War Department from 1941-1945. She then worked for the Clyde Hagerty Company as a "girl friday" from 1945-1949. Next she worked as a secretary and copy editor for the Washington Daily News newspaper from 1949-1950 then for Americans for Democratic Action from 1950-1951. In April of 1951 she took a job as secretary and Purchasing agent for Page Communications Engineers, Inc. where she worked until 1955. From 1957 to 1961 she worked for Page, Creutz, Steel and Waldschmitt (Consulting Engineers in Radio and Television). In 1962 she became Executive Secretary, Personel Manager, Travel Agent and Notary Public for the United States Underseas Cable Corporation. She retired in 1965. In her words..."I had a very nice career".

In 1938 she married Bert James Sweet of Bombay, NY in a ceremony performed by the first Mohawk to be ordained a priest, the Reverend Michael Jacobs at St. Jean Francois Regis Catholic Church, St. Regis, Quebec, Canada (Huntington Co.) The couple had three children, Richard E. Sweet, Lorna M. Sweet Keeler, and Joseph A. L. Sweet. Bert Sweet died in 1992. Bert had a long illness and was bed ridden for several years and Allietta cared for him at home until the end.

In 1993 (at age 75)she married her first sweetheart and long time family friend John Edwill Hull in a small ceremony in the chapel of St. Joseph's church in Palm Bay. They had seven happy years together and he died in 2000.

Mrs. Hull touched many lives and was very highly thought of and loved by many people. She was as they say "young at heart". She was a devout Catholic and had been a parisioner of St. Joseph's for 41 years. The rosary was one of her favorite devotions. She had not been a patient in a hospital since her youngest child was born in 1955. She was perfectly alert and aware until the last 2 days of her life. She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Maria of Margate, FL,daughter, Lorna and her husband Robert of Palm Bay, FL and son, Joseph of Chevy Chase, MD, 3 grand children, 9 great grand children and 4 great great grandchildren and also her dear friend of over 80 years Marjorie Perry of Pittsburgh, PA. Her funeral was beautiful and held in Old St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Miller Street and she is interred beside her husband Bert in St. Joseph's Cemetery on Miller Street in Palm Bay. She is greatly missed.
