SPEARMAN — Flavil Shirley Ayers, 88, of Spearman died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday In Church Of Christ with Calvin Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mr. Ayers was born July 23, 1923, in Macomb, Okla. Mr. Ayers was a mechanic and owned and operated his own shops in Spearman and Gruver. He was well respected in the communities he lived in and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Ayers was a missionary in Faith, S.D., for more than 12 years. He had a major influence in the growth of the Church of Christ in the Dakotas and surrounding areas. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and preached part time, performing numerous weddings and funerals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Ayers; a daughter, Shirley Marlene Nesbeth Ayers; and two sisters, Oleta Thomas and Theresa Raugh.

Survivors include a son, Glen Edwin Ayers of Plano; two brothers, Vance Ayers of El Reno, Okla., and Altus Ayers of Oklahoma City; a granddaughter, Kasandra Harris of Canyon; and two grandsons, Glen Scott Ayers and Trevor Austin Ayers, both of Garland.
