She graduated from Raytown High School in 1942. Also in 1942, she attended a church meeting at 59th and Kenwood with her family. There she found a young man by the name of Paul Sears. He was a member there along with his parents. Paul and Ellen were married September 5, 1943 in the home of the bride and her parents at 54th and Bennington. As they raised their family, she enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting for her children and grandchildren, canning vegetables out of their garden, and family reunions. She worked a few years at Ralph and Auda Bratcher's donut shop along with her sister Joyce Elliott. Later, she worked in the cafeteria of East High School, along with her sister Esther Rinkenbaugh who was the manager. During this time, the church at 26th and Spruce moved to 25th and Oakley where the family continued to meet.
Later, Ellen became a member of the Smart Road Church of Christ where she enjoyed the worship and the fellowship of those of "like precious Faith." So many times after she was unable to attend, groups would come from church to sing with her and lift her spirit. Ellen died December 14, 2022 at the age of 97 and was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul Sears, Sr.
