Delbert E. Pugmire, 75, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jun. 9, 1924, in Montpelier to Raymond David and Dettie (should be Ettie) Lorenia Bridges Pugmire, the fourth of seven children. He attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1942. He entered the US Army on July 6, 1943 where he was a technician fourth grade and was a special diet cook at the 71st STA Hospital in the Fiji Islands. He was also in Okinawa, Guam, Guadalcanal, New Caldonia, Solomon Islands, Japan and South Korea. He received an honorable discharge on Jan. 26, 1946, at Fort Lewis, Wa.

On June 16, 1946 he married Beryl Carlsen at the Carlsen Ranch in Sharon. They had three children, Diana Lynn, Kirk Carlsen, and Jana. Beryl preceded him in death on July 3, 1994. He later met and married Margaret Maloney on May 22, 1998, the special angel of his last years.

He was a member of the LDS Church. He owned and operated restaurants all his life in Montpelier. He was a well known chef in the Bear Lake Valley, especially known for his wonderful homemade chicken noodle soup, rolls, egg foo yung, short ribs and many more. His hobbies included bowling, golf, fishing, snowmobiling, flying and dancing. He was a member of Montpelier VFW Post #3884 and had many good friends.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Margaret of Dingle, two daughters, Diana Lynn and Loren Capell of Pocatello, Jana and Bob Hansen of Montpelier, a son Kirk C. and Daleen Pugmire of Montpelier, a step-daughter, Maggie and Ray Shurtz of Dingle, three brothers, Deward and Afton of West Valley City, Gerald of Ogden, Grant of Soda Springs, one sister, Betty Rae and Doward Bronson of Goshen; nine grandchildren, two step-grandsons and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beryl, and two sisters.

Funeral services were held March 12 at 1 p.m. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
