Ran for US Congress in 1913 on the Prohibition Party ticket; defeated (PCJ, Jr's information... not sure if 1913 was correct yr; should be even number for election year?)
As a young person, he worked as a clerk in a shoe store, then in the early 1880s he moved to Pratt City to work in the office of Pratt Coal Company. In 1890, he was hired to be general manager of The Standard Coal Company. By 1900, he became General Manager of the company which required him to move to Birmingham.
Not long after moving to Birmingham, he purchased The Perfect Mattress and Spring Company. He also bought into The Jefferson Federal Savings and Loan Association about 1902.
