Basil O. Smith Sr., 78, of Hometown, died April 20, 1996, at General Division, CAMC, after a long illness. He was a retired coal miner with Valley Camp Coal Co., a member of UMW and 40-year resident of Hometown. He was a Protestant. Surviving: daughters, Nancy Kelly of Eleanor, Mary Lou Hicks(now deceased) of Nitro; son, Basil O. Jr. of Hometown; sister, Mary Arthur of Scott Depot; brothers, Kenneth Smith of Chesapeake, Glen Smith of Ovapa, James Smith of Eleanor, William Smith of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca.
