The birth date on the headstone is incorrect. On his WWI Draft Card, he gave his birth date and place as 14 June 1883 in Racine. This is also the only known written source of his full name, "James Wencil Kriz."
The death date on the headstone is also incorrect. Several newspaper articles in Racine newspapers dated between 13-21 October 1926 recount the tragedy and all confirm the 13 October 1926 death date.
The funeral was held at the home of his sister, Anna Mortzfeld, presumably officiated by the pastor at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, followed by his burial on 16 October 1926.
