March 20, 1879:
James B. Scott died at the residence of the widow Scott, near Milledgeville, on Friday, March 14, 1879, aged twenty-two years.
“Buck,” as he was called, was a model young man respected and liked by all who knew him. He was very eager in obtaining an education, and attended Asbury University three years, where he stood at the head of his class. He contemplated making law his profession, and would, no doubt, have met with success.
Confinement and hard study is supposed to be the cause of his death. On Tuesday, 11th inst., he attended the burial of his sister.
