Mrs. Woods had been absent from the room for a few minutes, and when she returned she found Mrs. Tinney attempting to extinguish the flames which had burned most of her clothing. The daughter brought the suffering woman to the local hospital as quickly as possible, but the burns were so severe that there was little hope for her life.
Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery with Powers Funeral Home in charge. Pall bearers were Tommy Barton, Roy Warwick, Bill Hill, P.M. King, Elmer Dickson, and Frank Smart.
Survivors include five daughters, Mesdames Laura Wood of Checotah, Joe Bedford of Portersville, California, Alice Wise of Wagoner, Frances Fairchild of Tulsa, and Ruby McKee of Okmulgee; five sons Tuggie Benge of Sallisaw, Frank Tenney of Elk City, Columbus, Allen and Leonard, all of Borger, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Montgomery of Muskogee and Mrs France Woodie of Tulsa; and thirteen grand children.
