Anna May Roberts, 90, a 25-year resident of Brush, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. The service will conclude at the church.
She was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Ogallala, Neb., to William and Lillie May Armbruster.

The Armbruster family moved to the San Luis Valley when Anna was 6 weeks old. Because of Anna's health problems, her family moved back to a lower altitude, moving to Big Springs, Neb. Anna graduated from the eighth grade.

At the age of 18, Anna married John V. Roberts in Julesburg on June 25, 1939. They were going to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary next month. In 1944, the couple bought a farm near Crook, where they farmed and raised 5 children.

Anna was active in her community and church. She taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the Federated Woman's Club, and was awarded the top homemaker of the Twin Buttes Club in 1956. She served on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation board. She was an active member of the United Church of Crook, later moving her membership to the Rankin Presbyterian Church when she and John retired and moved to Brush. She served as an American Red Cross Gray Lady at the East Morgan County Hospital.

Some of her most memorable moments included traveling with their "snowbird" friends, especially Ruth and Lyle Ring, their life-long friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Anna suffered ill health in her last years on this earth. Her faith in God never faltered.

Survivors include her husband, John of Brush; four sons, Jim Roberts and his wife Judy of Crook, Dennis Roberts and his wife, Linda of Longmont, John Roberts and his wife Shirley of Ulysses, Kan., Vern Roberts, and his wife Marjorie of Fort Morgan; one daughter, Sheree Amen Price and her husband Robert Price of Woodland Park; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Virginia Lee; her daughter-in-law, Joan Roberts of Fort Morgan; son-in-law, Leland Amen of Crook; daughter-in-law, Becky Roberts of Brush and a great-grandson, Matt Stieb of Sterling; five brothers and two sisters; and her parents.

The Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush is entrusted with the arrangements. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Rankin Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at heermortuary.com.
