Shirley M. Boal, 75 of Berrien Springs passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Zion United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph with Rev. Dan J. Smith officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held 5-8 PM Friday, Sept. 9 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. In lieu of flowers the family ask that expressions of sympathy be given to the Berrien County Cancer Service, Berrien County Youth Fair, Zion United Church of Christ or the Michiana Two Cylinder Club.

Shirley was born May 4, 1936 in Berrien Springs the daughter of the late Henry and Amanda (Gaul) Zech. On May 29, 1955 she married John H. Boal. She was a member of the Berrien Springs American Legion Post 85, Women's Auxiliary. Shirley drove school bus for Berrien Springs, Brandywine, Lakeshore and most recently the Berrien County ISD, now RESA. She loved gardening and her tractors, but most of all she loved her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John; four children - David Boal of ND, Daniel (Stacie Dunn) Boal of Lawrence, Denise (David) Bowles of OH and Douglas (Kimberly) Boal of Buchanan; grandchildren - Joshua, Justin and Amanda Pugh, Cody and Kaine Boal and Faith Biggs; a great granddaughter - Evylen Boal; sisters - Darlene Schinski of Eau Claire and Doris Zech of St. Joseph; brothers - Larry Zech of AR and Dennis Zech of Baroda; and her faithful canine friend, Ginger.

Shirley was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dawn Marie; brothers Kenneth, Herbert and Richard; a sister, Lois Prillwitz and her Akita, Nekota.
