Born in Centralia on June 6, 1927, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Catherine (Hinchey) Burge.
He was a graduate of Hubert Eicher High School in Centralia.
On April 29, 1950, in St. Ignatius Church, Centralia, he married the former Nina Panikarchuck, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a corporal. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He and his wife were owners/operators of B&N Beverage in Coal Township until his retirement.
He was a member of Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont, a Fourth Degree member of Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus Council No. 628 and a member of Centralia American Legion Post No. 608, Wilburton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Mach of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary K. and Elwood Gallagher of West Cameron; a son, Robert (Bobby) Burge Jr. at home; three grandchildren, Kevin Troup, Michael J. Pekera and Jennifer Straub; two great-grandchildren, Rebeka and John Troup; two brothers, Terrence Burge of Fountain Springs and Joseph Burge of Bowie, Md.; a sister, Sally Larkin of Mount Airy, Md., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Pogash.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont, with the Rev. Gerard T. Heintzelman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kulpmont.
