He received an associate degree from Northampton Community College.
He was Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as an Aviation Electronics Technician with RVAH-12 Reconnaissance Attack Squadron as they deployed aboard USS Constellation, USS Saratoga & USS Forrestal.
He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
