In the summer of 1900, a census taker visited a Stevens family living on a farm in the Cunningham Township of Chariton County, Missouri. Head of the family was William Stevens, age 45, born in Iowa in December 1854. His father had been born in Canada West and his mother in Ohio. He was a farmer. His wife was Sarah, age 41, born in Iowa in August 1858. Her father had been born in Pennsylvania and her mother in Indiana. They had been married 19 years and had one child who was living with them. He was Clyde Stevens, age 9, born in February of 1891 in Washington State. (census page 109)
