He was born in Lvnn, Canada on Feb. 21, 1900 a son of the late Frederick and Margaret Kerr Briggs. As a young man his parents moved to the Potsdam area where he attended schools. On Jan. 17, 1920, he was married to Lucy Goodbout of Canton at St. Mary's Church, Canton, with the late Rev. John O'Neil officiating.
The couple always resided at their present home near Eben for the past 30 years. For many years he was employed at the Raquette River Paper Co., Sissonville. He also owned and operated his own farm. He retired 5 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Briggs, of Eben, and by one daughter, Mrs. Dolman (Helena) Prescott of Altamont; also by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Marjorie Higgins of Louisville, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at the family home with the Rev. George Goodbout, a nephew from Mountain Ferry officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton. Arrangements were with the O'Leary Funeral Home.
