Services for Henry Vandermartin Sr 72 of rural route Java, will be at 2pm Saturday May 13th (1978) at the Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle.
The Rev Douglas Barrows will be officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Garden, Selby. The Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr Vandermartin died Wednesday May 10 at his home.
He was born Sept 21 1905 to Mr and Mrs John Vandermartin in Tracey Iowa. He came to South Dakota with his parent in 1909 and settled southwest of Selby. He attended school in the Bangor School District.For a number of years he farmed with his father near Blue Blanket Lake.
On Dec 24,1945 he married Martha Wiedmeir at McIntosh. Following his marriage he farmed in Blue Blanket area and near Mound City. He moved to his present farm near Spring Lake at Java in 1950.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Vandermartin, Java; one son Henry Vandermartin Jr, Java; one daughter, Sharon Schumacher, Aberdeen; three brothers Marce, Portland Ore; Johnnie Vandermartin, St Clair; Penn Fred Vandermartin, Brownsville,Texas.
Five sisters, Mrs Lee (Bertha) Stowell, Selby; Mrs Dwight (Lizzie) Marin, Sumner, Washington; Mrs Carl (Lucille) Nesset, Billings, Montana; Mrs Othial (Dorothy) Turner, Mobridge; Mrs Gertrude Walker in Colorado and 2 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and one sister and one brother.
