His 1st wife was Mary Ann Lipp, and 2nd, he married Ethel Nellie Fouts Claver, who survived him.

He was a Kansas City, MO police officer, killed in the line of duty. In 1920, his wife was running a boarding house in St. Joseph, MO while he was working in Kansas City. He was killed while on duty by 3 Italian robbers who were trying to steal chickens. His name is engraved on the statue of a policeman holding a child at the KCPD.
His fellow officers took up a collection and gave Ethel a few hundred dollars.
She never remarried and ended up in the state hospital where she died of pneumonia.
