Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Mellary, rural Peosta. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Larkin farmed in the Bernard area all of his life.
He was born on April 19, 1917, in Bernard, son of James and Mary (Gaule) Larkin. He married Lucille Meehan in 1946; she died in 1997.
He was a lifelong resident of Dubuque County. He was a World War II Army veteran and received five Bronze Stars and various unit citations. He was a member of Holy Family Church; American Legion Post 528 of Cascade; and lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans. He was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Larkin, of Bernard, and Brian (Carolyn) Larkin, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Josephine) Larkin, of Peosta, and Joe (Pat) Larkin, of Bernard; and a sister, Adeline (Jack) Urbain, of Dubuque.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita McCarthy and Amy Healy.
Memorials may be sent to Shady Rest Care Center, 701 Johnson St., N.W., Cascade, Iowa 52033-0170, and Hospice of Dubuque.
