Dora McNeal was the second oldest of six girls born to John Hackworth McNeal and Martha Barney. Born in Greenup County, KY she married John L. Kouns June 4, 1905 and moved to Ashland. There she and John would have 13 children, 11 of whom would survive to adulthood. One son died of an automobile accident and another reportedly contracted polio and died at around 9 years old. Dora died in 1957.
